During the writing of my novel With or Without You which is set partly in Nepal, I came across this small charity, started by Florence Krief that works to support an orphanage of twenty kids in Kathmandu.  Florence's story is incredible - after a visit to Nepal, she was so moved by the plight of the kids there that she came home, packed in her job as a city trader and has since spent all her money supporting the aims of the charity.  A truly amazing woman.
